Choriki Robo Galatt - Episode 24 & 25

Final two episodes of Choriki Robo Galatt are now up. Michael attempts to get a closer look at an enemy base under construction somewhere on Planet Blood while the remaining Syndicate members plan to mess up their construction with bombs in Ep. 24, while both the Galatt crew & the remaining Syndicate members team up to fight against the Driarian army in Ep. 25.

I mentioned in a previous post that I had some comments to make about this show's final arc—due to various circumstances, I'm not really in the mood to go & make a full essay on this like I had intended, so I'll probably just post a TL;DR version or something.

Bandai—Galatt's sponsor—wasn't happy with the low ratings this show was seemingly getting at the time, so they demanded that Sunrise try & add in more combat and a serious story arc. They did exactly that, only for the show to get cancelled halfway through Ep. 23's production. As a result, they had to hastily wrap up the story in two episodes, ending it all at Ep. 25.

I have mixed feelings about it. The show attempts to combine both its comedic themes with its serious storyline and IMO it just really does not mesh out all that well. Lots of recurring characters don't get the closure they deserve and some of them just outright surprisingly don't even show up in the finale at all. I understand that this is really isn't Sunrise's fault and they were just trying to work with whatever they could at that point, but it's still really unfortunate regardless.

The arc's not horrible, but definitely not a satisfactory way to end this show. A reboot/remake that properly tells this story from start to finish the way it was meant to be told would be nice, but realistically I don't think that's happening any time soon.

Anyways—what follows now for this project, after this?

As mentioned in Ep. 20's release post, I changed the typesetting for this show. I'm re-watching the earlier episodes to make sure the typesetting is consistent & doesn't fuck up anywhere but also because the timing for the earlier episodes once again doesn't match my current tastes for how I prefer stuff to be timed. I also want to bump up the show's quality further and actually want someone to go & QC this show from start to finish.

All of that will take time, naturally, but once I get around to finishing it then I will go & finally put out a final batch release for this show.

I'll touch this show again if it gets a BD release... ever.

That said—both episodes are now available for downloading at the usual spot. A proper credits list for this show will also be made alongside the final batch.

Choriki Robo Galatt - Episode 23

Michael re-unites with Jumbow & Pattyge on Planet Blood, but with one tiny little problem—Jumbow's Galatt transformation doesn't last as long as it should despite having plenty of fuel to operate with, leaving both Michael and the others at a disadvantage while enemy Driarian mechas chase them down. Patty & Camille follow suit and teleport to the same planet while Dr. Kiwi quickly tries to look for a solution that allows the Galatt forms to last longer.

Choriki Robo Galatt - Episode 22

The ominous Driarian army finally makes their introduction here and begins their takeover of the planet in which Lord Grash & his Syndicate empire currently reside in. The Dosukoi twin sisters, revealed to be aliens from another planet, make preparations to return to their home planet—only for Jumbow & Pattyge to tag along and discover what the Driars eventually plan to do to Earth if they're not stopped.

This episode is supposed to be the start of a new arc which, regretfully, did not last very long—as this show got cancelled & ended at episode 25. I have lots to say about it, but that will come at a later point in time.

Makyou Gaiden Le Deus (1987)

Another stalled project done & dusted...

JTaylorPro from Twitter had gotten a LD copy of this OVA and got it captured via Domesday with tanks404—I requested to have an encode sent my way since I was interested in doing something with it, but alas... this was back in July 2024. I hadn't touched this until this month LOL

It's finally done now, though :)

So, what is this OVA? Just a one-off project by Ashi Productions featuring designs by Aran Rei and directed by the same dude who'd eventually go on to direct Sonic Soldier Borgman for Ashi Pro, too—who would have thought? Plot-wise, this takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where treasure hunter Liot, alongside his two pretty sidekick twins, are searching for a mysterious treasure that is said to save anybody if used correctly. Unfortunately for them, Kaiser and his gang are after it too for their own nefarious purposes...

I had listened to the soundtrack long ago (which rocks) but only just now got around to watching this. I seriously wonder WTF Ashi Pro were doing when working on this. There is an insane number of shots where you can see the edges of the cel sheets used, another shot where some black bar slowly begins to start eating up the image at the bottom around the OVA's halfway point, and even one scene near the end where the MC is triumphantly yelling in his Le Deus mecha before engaging in battle—except he doesn't actually say his full line because the editor accidentally cut him off before he could even finish 💀

I like the OVA and think it's pretty good, but production-wise? This is a mess.

This OVA had actually gotten an official release at some point, via a UK company that released it on VHS—naturally, this has long since been out of print. These subs were eventually OCR'ed and slapped onto a mediocre-quality LD rip back in 2012. The subs weren't bad, but admittedly barebones & required some fixes—all in all, the adjustments aren't minor, but not major enough to call this a new translation from scratch either.

What I do consider major, though—besides this release utilizing a first-ever Domesday rip—is the inclusion of new song translations in this release. I think things have changed since then but the Le Deus OST was somewhat rare to acquire back then and for that reason I think nobody had attempted to translate neither the insert song or ending song because of it. Thankfully I have a physical copy myself, so that's been covered in this release :)

Typesetting for the title logo was also added in by our resident Russian, perevodildo.

That's all I got. An HD release of this OVA would be preferable, but given Ashi Pro's track record, this is probably the best we'll be getting for now.

Dragon Quest 3 (SFC) - VHS Promotional Video

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/G1r2qD2bUAAFjrf?format=jpg&name=900x900

Back in 2023 I was contacted by tanks404—an encoder I've frequently worked with on various projects—about a seemingly rare promotional video on VHS that popped up for sale of the SFC version of Dragon Quest 3.

There didn't seem to be any rips of it online, so he went ahead & acquired it for me—naturally, I helped pay for it.

The tape looks something like this, for reference...

The tape was acquired in July '23, captured in August of that same year... I think? After that, I later sent the encode over to Windii for her to help time, translate, and typeset it.

And then I forgot about it for two whole years. The end!!

Nah but for real though, I did actually forget about it and didn't even realize I had this on me until last week, as embarrassing it is for me to admit it. As soon as I remembered the first thing I did was get to work on editing the subs—I did change the font for the default narration to something of my own liking (nothing special, literally just the same default font I use for my projects now), but the rest was otherwise left unchanged.

I also de-clicked the tape's audio, as it was way too clicky for my liking. A little too loud as well, so Kaleia78 assisted me & helped lower the volume while also carefully de-clipping it at the same time.

That's really all I got. I posted this onto YT a few days ago so I'm posting it onto Nyaa as well since I now finally have time for it.

This can be found for download on the same usual spot as always, under the [LonelyChaser] tag. Enjoy.
