Okubyou na Venus (1986)

https://nyaa.si/view/1761785
Fansub credits can be found in the link above.

Jeez... I didn't realize I haven't updated this blog since like late October. For a second I was beginning to question what I had even worked on within the past few months LOL

Anyways, here's a new subbed upload—and the last one for 2023. Released only on VHS & VHD, this is a short 20-min OVA about an aspiring singer/dancer making her way up in the US. There is some dialogue, but trust me when I say that it is very little, as the majority of the anime pretty much consists of several music video-esque sequences. All the songs are taken from Maiko Okamoto's Fascination album from 1986—actually, as a matter of fact, I wonder if this was made to promote that...

As far as I know, the only existing raw for this anime was a really awful VHS 240p rip—this release uses an encode by HuffaloB, taken straight from the VHD version. A huge improvement over the VHS rip if you ask me.

Enjoy!

Xanadu: Dragonslayer Densetsu (1988)

https://nyaa.si/view/1736132
Fansub credits can be found in the link above.

This is an English-subbed version of the 1988 OVA "Xanadu: Dragonslayer Densetsu", based off the RPG franchise Dragonslayer by Nihon Falcom. This had remained unsubbed for quite some time, with only a very low-quality raw floating around on the internet. However a copy of the VHS tape was eventually acquired by wowmd, who later capped it and sent it to Nikorasuuuu for translation—the subs then made their way back to me, where I coordinated with Yume to get it TLC'ed before I QC'ed myself.

The OVA tells the story of Fieg—a 21st-century soldier from the year 2035 AD who gets transported to the world of Xanadu after an intense battle. After meeting Riel, the princess of Xanadu, Fieg discovers that a man named Reichswar murders Xanadu's king in an effort to track down three of Xanadu's treasures, for it is said that anybody who acquires them will be able to rule the land. Having heard legends of a sword named "Dragonslayer"—which happens to be one of the three treasures of Xanadu—Fieg teams up with Riel to search for it before Reichswar reaches it.

Having watched this...I thought it was okay. Animation is very good, music...meh. The idea of a setting that mixes fantasy with a little bit of sci-fi & modern tech is a very interesting one to me. Not really satisfied with the ending though. To me it seems as if they wanted to continue it but I'm not educated enough to be able to confirm if that is the case or not.

Anyways, enjoy.

Kuma-chan (1993) [LD]

https://nyaa.si/view/1729151
Fansub credits can be found in the link above.

Very excited to release this one. It's been in the works for a few months now, but nevertheless, I present to you: Kuma-chan, from 1993!

This movie tells the story of Akio, an artist who is dating an aspiring theater actress, named Kei—due to their differences in age, Akio feels timid about dating her & expressing his true feelings for her, which results in their relationship slowly spiraling downwards. However, one day, an alien in the form of a teddy bear crashes into Akio's house, which sends him into a panic—but unbeknownst to him, this little bear could be the one thing that'll save his relationship with Kei...

The movie was captured straight from LaserDisc w/Domesday—sadly there is no DVD/BD release so this is as good as it'll get for now. Also included as extras are some behind-the-scenes footage & trailers that play after the movie (also capped from LD), as well as hi-res scans of the LaserDisc itself, done by me and restored by Kaleia78.

Enjoy!

The Getter crew head to Germany to battle the Metal Beast sent by Rasetsu, but unfortunately for Sho, she doesn't seem to blend together well with Schlöndorff...

(Gonna be taking a short hiatus from this project so I can focus on finishing some JP movies that I've had in the pipeline for a while now. I hope to resume this in late October. Stay tuned!)

Bari Bari Densetsu - Episode 2

https://nyaa.si/view/1717814
Fansub credits can be found in the link above.

Continuing off from Episode 1, here's Episode 2 of the 80s Bari Bari Densetsu OVA. Here, Gun & Hideyoshi reluctantly collaborate with each other at the request of Miyuki for the purpose of participating in their first professional motorcycling racing event.

I don't dislike the first episode by any means...but something I neglected to mention when I wrote the post for it was that you could easily tell that the OVA was just simply a compilation of multiple random(?) manga chapters re-purposed into a single OVA. As a result, to me at least, there isn't really a clear plot to Episode 1. Not that this is a bad thing, as I've actually subbed similar material myself before—it just simply threw off my expectations is all. BC of it, I don't feel strongly about Ep. 1. How I feel about this kind of storytelling really depends on my mood and how interested I am in the title itself.

Episode 2, on the other hand? HUGE improvement over Episode 1. It's got better BGM, a more interesting storyline to go along with it—heck, I don't even want to spoil anything cause it would ruin the excitement otherwise but the first 5 min of the OVA instantly caught my attention and had me wondering throughout the rest of the OVA how it would conclude.

It is also for this reason that I'm damn well disappointed that there were no further plans to continue the OVA beyond this point. All that was released after was a compilation movie...and that's it.

There's a good chance that this could get a new anime adaptation someday, which I'd happily watch, but it very likely won't have the same feels as the 80s OVAs have. It is what it is...

Anyways, some final notes: a VHD rip was used for Episode 1 but we've changed video sources this time. An SDBD for this was released in Japan a few months ago and, shockingly enough, is in much higher quality than anything that's been released previously. So, what you see here in this episode is sourced directly from that SDBD.

Mini Yon Soldier Rin! (16mm 1080p HD Scan)

https://nyaa.si/view/1708448
Fansub credits can be found in the link above.

Another collab with Kineko Video—this one slightly has an interesting backstory to it!

Mini Yon Soldier Rin was released in 1989 on VHS only by some label I'm not familiar with—it later got re-issued by SEGA themselves. This OVA (which is the length of an average TV anime episode) tells the story of a kid champion of Mini 4WD races who, after winning a major competition, gets challenged by a psychic to race him in a life-size version of the race track used in the aforementioned competition. Hilarity ensues after.

I couldn't find much info surrounding this OVA online. Take this with a grain of salt, as I don't remember where I got this from, but I think the OVA was produced to cash in on the Mini 4WD boom in Japan. Considering the OVA's obscurity, I don't think it was successful...
I'm not into Mini 4WD racing all that much but I definitely think this could have benefited from a few sequels or so, as this OVA isn't really all that bad or anything.

As for how this project came to be...
This was actually one of the very first film reels I had ever purchased when I had just barely begun collecting these! I purchased this alongside Kentauros no Densetsu back in 2020—I was in a bit of situation here because I couldn't yet find any reliable people that could scan this for me, until I was eventually introduced to the folks from Kineko Video (back when they were known under a certain other handle...lol).

The print I acquired was eventually scanned, but this was plagued with a few problems: a few seconds from the beginning was cut out, as was a random scene in the middle. I was considering stitching in the missing footage straight from a VHS capture of the anime (which I also acquired for its stereo audio track), but regardless, the project was put on hold for a while until a 2nd print of the anime eventually resurfaced in February 2022, which I also acquired. This one is in considerably better condition and was scanned with an entirely new scanner, a different one that was used with the 1st print many years ago...however, the 1st print was scanned again with the new scanner since some scenes on it looked better than on the 2nd print.

Ultimately, what you're seeing here is a combination of both the 1st & 2nd prints of the OVA.

As mentioned earlier, the VHS version of this OVA is in stereo—I purchased the VHS, sent it over to "HuffaloB" for him to capture, which Kineko eventually used to replace the optical audio on the film reel with. So not only do you get to see this OVA in HD for the first time, but you also have great audio to pair it up with :)

Enjoy!

Tongari Boushi no Memole (1984)

https://nyaa.si/view/1703816
Credits can be found in the link above.

Not too long after this anime finished broadcasting on TV (during its original run), Toei had created a 15-min compilation movie focusing on episodes 24 & 25 which they screened during their 1985 Manga Festival. I'm unsure if this was included on the Memole LD Memorial Box Set but this was eventually included in the show's DVD box set.

The raw here was taken from a streaming web source—it's in HD, but unfortunately cropped to 16:9... There was a missed opportunity to get this 15-min compilation movie on 35mm a few months ago, which I now deeply regret.

Anyways, enjoy!

Sea Cat (1988) [16mm 1080p HD Scan]

https://nyaa.si/view/1696008
Fansub credits can be found in the link above.

Another collab with Kineko Video. This time, it's the English-subbed release of an anime short from 1988, titled "Sea Cat'—scanned in 1080p from a 16mm reel. Produced by Oh! Production, this tells the story of a kitten who gets raised by a sea otter, only to eventually encounter a nuclear submarine which the kitten mistakes for a "whale" at first. I don't want to spoil anything else...but the ending is pretty wild. It's a few minutes shorter than your average TV anime episode so this won't take up too much of your time.

Details about this anime are scarce. One thread on the internet states that this was a "hobby" film by the company which could imply they did this for fun. It's certainly possible!

However, considering the production of this was funded by a teacher's union, I'm leaning more towards the possibility that this was commissioned as an educational short meant to be screened at either schools or local community centers. There was a website that supposedly had more info on this short but it's dead now so I guess we'll never know.

A final note: there's this message that appears at the end of the movie, after the staff credits but before "The End" pops up. A list of names follows it afterwards. I didn't feel like getting the names translated as it would have taken a long time and written names can be interpreted in many ways, but at the very least I can post the English translation for the message before the names:

Members of the 'One Cat' movement who endorse the message of this movie, in alphabetic order.

I've no clue if these members are the very same people who provided the artwork displayed in the movie's beginning & end, FYI.

Anyways, enjoy!

Saint Elmo — Hikari no Raihousha (1986)

https://nyaa.si/view/1692870
Fansub credits can be found in the link above.

Another Inka collab—here are the English subs for Saint Elmo, a 1986 TV film originally created to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Kansai Electric Power Company, who sponsored and produced the film. This was later released on VHS one year later, and...has been stuck on the format since then.

In the anime, Japan builds a large space power plant called Saint Elmo with the intent of powering Earth via solar energy—but an unexpected & mysterious error causes Saint Elmo to cut off and drift off-course into the sun, resulting in widespread power outages across Earth. To combat this, several technicians are sent on a life-or-death mission to repair the power plant and save the planet. Also, talking animals and cuckolding, because why not?

Slightly related, but I also uploaded my own rip of the theme songs to this film onto YT if you wish to check those out as well. These were released on vinyl only and are still very hard to acquire physically these days—I'm unsure of the circumstances behind this release as it was never sold in stores. Maybe it could have been a promo item for those who ordered the VHS or distributed as a gift to those who were involved in the production of this film. Guess we'll never know.

Bari Bari Densetsu - Episode 1

https://nyaa.si/view/1690493
Fansub credits can be found in the link above.

Another collab with Inka. This time we got the English-subbed version of the 1st episode to the Bari Bari Densetsu OVA, based off the manga of the same name by Shuichi Shigeno (whom you might recognize for another work featuring cars... LOTS of cars...)

As with most old anime, my introduction to this title began when I was going through the discography of composer Ichiro Nitta—a musician who's arranged music for various JP singers and has also done various other anime OSTs. I eventually stumbled upon the existence of Bari Bari Densetsu after seeing that he did both the OVA OSTs & image music for the manga, and later searched up what the current status of the anime was.

Unfortunately, the status (then) was not good! Both episodes 1 & 2 of the OVA were untranslated, with only the compilation movie receiving subs, and not even good ones at that. Raws for all three were also in shit condition.

Thankfully, that changes now. We will eventually be moving onto the 2nd episode of this OVA, and later the movie.

The raws used for Episodes 1 & 2 will be sourced from the VHD version—the movie will be sourced from a Domesday-based rip.

Fansub credits can be found in the link above.

After Randou claims to have found a weakness in Getter Robo, he commands
Baron Yasha & Rasetsu to team up (yet again...) to construct a new Metal Beast with the intention of taking down Getter Robo. Meanwhile at NISAR, Gai seems to be troubled by something, so much so that he conflicts with Gou more than usual and it even effects their ability to be able to properly transform their mechas later. I wonder what it is?

Getter Robo Go - Episode 16

Fansub credits can be found in the link above.

After a volcanic eruption off the coast of Malaysia, Dr. Pochi & Tama are dispatched to check it out underwater when a new mineral resembling the G-Minerals is discovered there. However, Randou's servants intercept these plans and send in a new Metal Beast to prevent the doctors from collecting the minerals—the Getter Robo team steps in to prevent any harm to the doctors.

NOTE: Starting this episode, I will now be referring to the G-Minerals as "G-Crystals" from now on. I'll be sure to fix this in the previous episodes once the show is ready for another batch release in the future.

Sonic Soldier Borgman - Batch 3 (Episodes 01 ~ 27)

https://nyaa.si/view/1678833

Took longer than I had expected...but the 3rd batch for my ongoing Sonic Soldier Borgman fansub is now finally up. This contains v3.5's, v2.5's, and v1.5's of previously released episodes.

Lots of changes were made for this batch. I kept a list of changes made, though I stopped continuously updating it at some point so some of said changes might not actually be listed in here. Right off the bat, though—I re-watched the whole show starting from Episode 1 up to 27 for the purpose of re-timing lines, fixing any typos, and making various adjustments to how the lines were presented on-screen.

Here is what was changed for this batch:

  • The title logo now has fancy typesetting, thanks to Windii!
  • ED 1 has lyrics that fade in & fade out, but I neglected to actually add in said effects for the English-subbed lyrics. Effects have now been properly added in, once again thanks to Windii.
  • Episodes 1, 3, 7, 9, 10, 16, and 20 have new typesetting-related additions, added in by Windii.
  • Some of you may have noticed several episodes ago that I lowered the height of the default dialogue subs—previously-released episodes have been edited to have the subs match this same height level as well.
  • Various lines throughout the episodes were reaching the red zone with regards to CPS in Aegisub—these have been re-worded and/or re-timed to prevent this.
  • Romaji lyrics for the insert song in Episodes 10 & 13 have been added.
  • So, throughout the episodes, the students sometimes refer to their teachers as just..."teach". Or "Ma'am" when referring to Anice. I've left it as is for Anice, but for Ryo/Chuck I've switched it to Mr. Hibiki/Mr. Sweager respectively. There are probably instances where I've switched it to "Sir" instead but I don't remember—not a big deal anyways.
  • Ep. 8: "Episode 8" was supposed to show up alongside the EP name as well but I missed this, somehow. This has now been fixed.
  • Megalo City and Megalo Building had inconsistencies throughout the episodes with regards to their capitalization, but this should be fixed now. If there's an extra instance that I somehow missed then I will fix it in a later batch.
  • Inconsistency with Randou's name in Ep. 1 & "Baltector" terminology in Ep. 1 (I think some of the early episodes past Ep. 1 had the "Baltector" teminology issue too, but I don't remember)
  • Ep. 5 NEP: "Droll" should have been "Toru" instead, this has now been fixed.

As usual, thanks to whomever has been helping out with the show so far—you know who you are.

Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere - "Mission 00" & "AppenDisc Night Raven"

VHS Cover for "Mission 00"

https://nyaa.si/view/1676059
Fansub credits can be found in the link above.

I think this might be the first time I've ever gotten vidya-related material subbed? No, by "vidya-related material" I don't mean anime shows or movies based off game franchises—but promotional material and the such, like today's release here.

The JP release of Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere had a promotional VHS release titled Mission 00, meant to help introduce the player into the world of Ace Combat 3 before actually playing the game itself. It begins with a very short introduction on the previous two games before switching to various segments that include broadcasted news, in-game commercials, and characters speaking to the viewer—each of whom belong to different organizations in Ace Combat 3 and describe in detail the aircraft they manufacture (and which I assume the player can control in-game).

I was approached by folks from Load Word Team, who have recently developed from scratch a brand-new English translation for the game's JP version and have also provided me the VHS rip used for this sub's release of Mission 00. Mission 00 seemingly hadn't been subbed at all (or uploaded online for that matter, but correct me if I'm wrong)—one thing led to another and I agreed to help sub this VHS for them :^)

Also included within this release is an English sub for an FMV in the Ace Combat 3 game, titled AppenDisc Night Raven. Presented as another news broadcast with "leaked" footage, it talks about a new aircraft which one of the organizations in-game have been secretly developing.

That is all. Enjoy!

Triple Release: Choriki Robo Galatt - Episode 15 / Noriko '85 (LD) / Maple Town's Traffic Safety (16mm 1080p Scan)

Decided to do something different for today. I have three fansub releases for today, but I didn't feel like separating these into their own posts just out of pure laziness, so I will be combining them all into this single post. I'll try and divide each release accordingly.

With that being said...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

https://nyaa.si/view/1663403
CHANGE, GALATT!

Same case with my recent Getter Robo Go upload from last week—I didn't intend on continuing this until I finished my (next) ongoing Borgman batch, but that's still a WIP. So I need to throw some other stuff up in the meantime. This episode was actually sorta already completed for a few months now, it just needed TLC which I've thankfully gotten around to this past week.

Anyways! In this episode, Michael and friends finally arrive back to Earth, only to find Doctor Kiwi in shambles...and with a new female assistant?! She acts kind of weird though. Salad Oil also arranges another visit to Earth after a supposed surrender, which doesn't last very long. Also: the show seems to be hinting at a new wave of enemies that even the Space Syndicate are scared of. I wonder who they are?

Last note: I also want to put onto this post two TL notes, one of which I was unable to put into the episode due to timing length constraints.

1. Sakuko, as you can probably tell after watching this episode, acts very old-fashioned. Somewhere in the episode, Michael and friends guess that she was born in the year of the boar and that her blood type is B. Apparently there's a Japanese superstition that the year you're born in and your blood type affects your personality. Not that I know anything—I'm just passing down what I heard from the TL'er and one of the guys who helped TLC this for me.

2. Before Salad Oil's arrival, an airshow plays out between two fighter jets.

Please note that there is a chance that the commentator's subbed lines in this episode may not be correct.

His dialogue gets drowned out as soon as the governor and the others start speaking—I've had multiple people TLC this (a native JP speaker being one of them) and they all had trouble with this. What is currently subbed so far is the best that could be made out considering all the context and such. If by some chance someone figures it out then maybe I could update it in the show's next batch, but for now I'm leaving it as is.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

https://nyaa.si/view/1663406

This one is actually long overdue LOL.
Anyways—this is a LaserDisc containing music videos based off several tracks from Noriko Watanabe's vocal album of the same name. Lyrics have been subbed in English, and the LD was captured using a Domesday Duplicator.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

https://nyaa.si/view/1663407

Another short collab with Kineko Video. This one's yet another educational short taking place within the Maple Town universe that centers around traffic safety. Doesn't seem to have gotten a DVD release (per the usual), having only been circulated to schools via 16mm reels and VHS copies.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That does it for today's fansub releases. As usual, fansub credits for each separate work can be found in the Nyaa link aboves.

Getter Robo Go - Episode 15

https://nyaa.si/view/1661539
Fansub credits can be found in the link above.

I wasn't planning on resuming Getter Robo Go this soon—not until after I put out my next batch for Sonic Soldier Borgman that I had been talking about elsewhere for a while now...but it seems I still need more time for that. So I've made a change of plans and have decided to put out more episodes of this show in the meantime.

As of me writing this out, this anime has been translated up to Episode 20 so far and will sooner or later go up to 25 (heck, possibly 30 even), so who knows? Maybe it won't be too long before I put out another batch for this show. In any case I have something to keep myself afloat with for a while.

Anyways, with that being said—in today's episode, Yuji receives an SOS call from a camp in Canada, and proceeds to head out by himself in an effort to save the camp's kids as soon as possible. He is joined by the Getter crew, but unbeknownst to them, another Metal Beast lurks near their way...

Kizudarake no Kunshou / Desperate Pursuit (1986)

https://nyaa.si/view/1657618
Fansub credits can be found in the link above.

So...how did I stumble upon this movie?

Many many years ago I used to be in contact with a certain user who just so happened to own a bunch of rare Japanese OSTs on vinyl and offered to sell them to me. Among one of them was the soundtrack to Kizudarake no Kunshou, which I bought a copy of long ago.

The cover image—which depicts two of the MCs walking across the Egyptian desert—caught my interest at first. Old JP movies, to my knowledge, hardly were filmed outside of Japan. Yet, there seemingly was this 80s movie...filmed in EGYPT of all places?? Count me in!!

Unfortunately at the time, I didn't have much luck—my research at the time showed that this movie only had a VHS & LD release, both of which are really rare...so, even though I wanted to know more about the movie, I couldn't do much due to its rarity at the time and I couldn't be bothered to continuously search up copies every once in a while due to laziness.

I re-visited the OST again some time ago and later found out that this was finally remastered in HD via Amazon Prime! So I had someone rip it for me, and the rest is history...

Overall? This is a good movie! Lots of plot twists that are executed just well and with a synth OST that, surprisingly, REALLY fits the movie. Lots of unreleased BGM though... 😥

Anyways, enjoy!

Bobby ni Kubittake (1985)

https://nyaa.si/view/1648255
Fansub credits can be found in the link above.

So, a lot of you might be shocked at the fact that I went and released this...especially given my recent comments on the anime that I had posted onto Twitter.

"Marty, I thought you hated this anime? Why did you work on it?"

GOOD QUESTION! Long story short, I didn't know about the anime's quality until after I watched it. But I'll gladly explain below anyways how this entire project came to be:

Bobby ni Kubittake, or as I like to call it, Bobby's Down Bad (yes, this translation actually works—not sure where Bobby's Girl came from anyways), was one of many 80s anime titles that had been on my watchlist for quite some time now. Several years now! Naturally, because I get distracted easily (and because I have too many projects to work on), I had not yet found the time to actually sit down and watch it.

Fast forward to a couple months ago. I get a few DMs from Tanks, with a new project proposal:
A new fansub version of this anime.

I thought it was just gonna be a simple matter of transferring the old subs onto a newer release, but nope. Was more than that. As it turns out...the old (and existing) English fansub needed a lot of improvements? Or so I've been told. I still haven't seen it, but according to Windii (who helped re-translate the whole thing for this release), several of Bobby's internal monologues had lines that were borked, and one additional line that's not in the book was translated incorrectly on said old release and somehow managed to make it onto every release that followed—even the Italian & Russian ones!

Based off short clips and screenshots I saw, nothing was wrong with the typesetting on the old release, but Windii also wanted to use this opportunity to cook up new typesetting for the anime. I think it looks better IMO!

Anyways, with that being said—I'm a sucker for releasing new versions of anime depending on what it is, so I said "Yes" to Tanks' proposal. Once Windii finished the re-translation I got the chance to finally watch this for the first time...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifaoKZfQpdA

Never had I been so disappointed in my life. I already complained about this before so I'm not gonna repeat it again. But anyways, I made my final edits on the anime and was ready to submit it for release, when suddenly...

A change of the main source occurs. Originally the plan was to use a Domesday-capped version of the JP LD but we decided to go with the Taiwanese DVD release since, upon closer inspection, was slightly better than the LD/VHS. I don't know the video mumbo jumbo behind this so go bug Tanks if you want to know.

Unfortunately, since it was decided to use the DVD instead...that meant I had to re-watch the whole anime for a SECOND time. Can you believe it?! So much suffering...

That's really it. As I've said elsewhere, check this out if you're a sakuga fan, but otherwise I wouldn't expect much from this anime. Despite my comments, I can assuredly promise you though that this release is not half-assed. Far from it.

Ginga no Uo - URSA Minor Blue (MUSE HD LD)

https://nyaa.si/view/1644650
Fansub credits can be found in the link above.

This OVA's an odd one, though I don't mean that in a bad way. It tells the story of an elderly man and his grandson (Yuri), both of whom live in a laboratory near a lake. While viewing the Little Dipper, they begin to notice that the stars are disappearing one by one, seemingly caused by a huge fish in the sky who's eating them—both Yuri and his grandfather travel across the Milky Way to take down the fish before it eventually begins to consume nearby planets

I was first introduced to the existence of this title through its original soundtrack release from 1994—I had listened to the OST for a while but had never really checked out the anime until fairly recently. This was already subbed by Fong using a DVD source...but guess what?

Oddly enough, the LD version for this title is in HD! That's right, it was a MUSE release—which, judging by a quick glance on the internet, allowed for LDs to be displayed in high-definition. To date, this anime's HD version has not yet been re-released via streaming services nor modern physical means (Blu-Ray).

The LD was carefully capped by HuffaloBuffalo—this is not a Domesday recording, as MUSE LD decoding still needs more work. Fong's subs were re-timed to this new raw, and several lines have been changed/fixed. Also added in this release are lyrics to the (short) insert song that the stone-men sing—this was previously left unsubbed in Fong's release.

I think that's all I got for now. I think this release (visually) looks good enough for now, but if MUSE LD decoding improves in the future, I'll be happy to re-release this again when that time comes. Enjoy!

Choriki Robo Galatt - Batch Torrent #2 (Episodes 1 ~ 14)

https://nyaa.si/view/1637349
Here's the 2nd batch for my ongoing fansub of Choriki Robo Galatt.

Originally this was intended to contain only episodes 9 through 16, but considering how I had previously prepped up some other recent batches I put out for other shows (Borgman & Getter Robo Go), I decided to insert episodes 1 through 8 again. Also, 14 marks the end of a 4-part arc so I thought it would be more fitting to have the batch end at 14 instead of 16 as planned earlier.

Many fixes were made for this batch—when I say it's a lot, I mean it. I've been skimming through the earlier episodes I put out...at first glance I saw they obviously needed an update, but turns out it was a lot worse than that LOL. With the help of Yume (thank you!!), a majority (but not all) of these episodes were hugely revamped. As it turns out, a lot of them were translated incorrectly...various "Keikaku = plan"-type TL notes have been removed as well—this was done by re-wording the lines to such an extent so that the TL notes didn't need to be there, and, well...for some other lines, looking back I personally don't think they needed a TL note to begin with, so I removed those myself.

Revamping aside...changes that I don't feel like making a list out of: lines were re-timed. Some lines I made small edits to, some I removed or combined together. Lines that were either three-liners or really long one-liners have been edited accordingly so that it's not such a pain to look at them on-screen. Made a small edit to the font I use for robot dialogue as well and tidied up the fansub credits list in each episode.

The following changes below, not sure if I could consider them to be "major" but they surely aren't minor in my eyes either. Here they are:

1. Fixed inconsistencies! There's a lot of them. Short list below:
Doctor Kiwi's catchphrase when he rides off with Silver—some episodes used "Heigh-ho", others "Hi-yo" or "High-ho". Sticking with "Heigh-ho"—on an unrelated note, it's seemingly supposed to be a reference to The Lone Ranger (especially with the robot being named Silver...)
Patty & Camille's mechas (Pattyge & Kamige, respectively) had different spellings on various occasions
The spelling of "Armoroboid" (the enemy mechas that the Space Syndicate sends to Earth)

2. There's a separate font I use for robot characters—I absolutely don't know why I never used this font for whenever Silver speaks (even if he rarely talks), so this has since then fixed.

3. I've now added fade in/fade out transition effects for the show's title name! Nothing too flashy but I think it looks better with it. Also used these same effects for episode titles that fade in, too.

4. Episode 12's next episode preview is supposed to say "Space Arc III" but I mistakenly used "II" instead, this is fixed now.

5. Episode 13: subbed the crowd's cheers after Patty lands in the pool

6. Episode 1: Jumbow's first-ever transformation. I wasn't a fan of how his lines conflicted with Michael's/Patty's/Kiwi's when they showed up on-screen, so I tried organizing this a bit.

7. Episode 2: The armoroboid in this episode gets featured on a news broadcast that Michael watches from home—previously I had left a portion of the broadcast dialogue unsubbed. This has been fixed now, thanks to Yume.

8. Episode 1 & 2: Bit of an interesting one, this is in regards to the episode title for Ep. 2.
Previously, it was "The Dog Barks, the Mecha (Monster) Roars!"—the kanji for "Kaiju" (Monster) is written in the episode title but it was decided by Sunrise to refer to the "Kaiju" kanji as "Mecha" instead, as indicated in by the katakana right above the kanji. As such, since "Monster" isn't actually verbally said out loud—even during the narration for Ep. 1's next episode preview. I've taken out "Monster" from Ep. 2's title as a result.

9. Episode 4: When the doctors slip in the beginning, they yell out a word that's typically used as written SFX in manga whenever a character falls down (much like how Kiwi yelled out "Doki!" in Episode 3)—I had previously left this line unsubbed. Technically it still worked the way it did before but I decided to sub it this time out of the sake of consistency's sake.

10. Episode 5: Inconsistency with Dothan's name. Was written as "Dou" (Dothan's name in Japanese sounds almost similar to "Dou-san", hence the mix-up)

11. Episode 7: One of the ED lyrics was mistimed and fucked up the positioning of the fansub credits as a result. Dunno how this slipped past by me but this is fixed now.

12. Fixed inconsistency with Lord Grash's name (was named "Crash" in one episode)

13. Episode 8: there's a scene where Doctor Kiwi fools around with the mic and begins to sing...turns out he was (horribly) singing the lyrics to the ED all this time!! Shocked this flew past by me, but this has now been fixed.

Miki, having been placed under the control of Dust Gead, heads to CySonic Academy in an attempt to arrest & take down the Borgman crew...Ryo & friends suspect something is obviously not right and look for a way to save her & the students whom Miki has temporarily imprisoned.

This is the first episode (out of three) where Chuck's VA was replaced with Shinya Ohtaki, who's been serving as the narrator throughout this show—though you might recognize him as the MC of a certain Western-themed 80s mecha anime show by Tomino & Sunrise...I was a bit weirded out by it at first but actually got used to it pretty quickly as the episode went on.

Anyways, enjoy!

Getter Robo Go - Batch 1 (Episodes 1 ~ 14)

https://nyaa.si/view/1623607

Here's the first batch for my ongoing fansub of Getter Robo Go—this contains new revisions of Episodes 1 through 14.

I wasn't planning to re-visit the previous episodes (and by "re-visit" I mean re-watch) but I have ultimately decided on doing so to make some timing edits and other minor changes as I see fit.

Alongside the minor changes, there were lots of major fixes that the previous episodes admittedly did need, so here's a detailed list of what's changed (that I can remember):

1. First few episodes addressed the MC's name as "Go", this has now been switched to "Gou". Same with "Rando" and "Randou".

2. There was an inconsistency in proper capitalization (throughout the episodes) of Getter Robo Go's weapons, this has now been fixed.

3. Embarassingly enough, Episode 6 was written as "Episode 5" in the subs—this is fixed now.

4. "Professor Tachibana" has been switched to "Doctor Tachibana". (If I learned anything from subbing Galatt...)

5. Inconsistency between Randou being referred to as "Lord Randou" and "Master Randou"—going forward, I will be sticking with "Master"

6. Episode 8's name has been changed in Ep. 7's next episode preview

7. The episodes have varying translations of the OP/ED—I've switched them all to have them use the lyrics I've been using throughout the past few episodes. This also includes instances of the OP being used as an insert song in several episodes.

8. This was only for one episode I think, but Battle Helicopter was referred to as "Battle Heli"—this has now been fixed

9. Episode 12 has this scene where Gou and Gai communicate with Sho as she attempts to climb back onto her own Getter ship—I mistakenly italicized some of Gou's & Gai's lines when they weren't supposed to be, but this has now been fixed

10. Not sure how I missed this, but Episode 7's name had weird timing and came in MUCH earlier than it should have. This is fixed now.

11. I made a subtle mention of this in Episode 13's release post, but going forward I am removing all instances of Doctor Pochi & Tama going "woof/nyaa" at the end of their sentences. Quite frankly I was getting really annoyed of having to make certain edits to their sentences in every episode, hence the reason for this change. Don't worry, this doesn't change the meaning of their dialogue.

On a related note: there are instances where both their dialogues literally just consist of only one word, it being either "Woof" or "Meow"—for those kinds of sentences I will be leaving them intact.

Also, for Dr. Tama—there was an inconsistency between him saying "Nyaa" and "Nyan" throughout the episodes, and I couldn't be arsed to figure out which one to use, so I've just simply changed it to "Meow" instead.

12. Fixed inconsistencies with Sho's & Mei's names (written as "Shou" and "May" respectively in some episodes)

13. Bit similar to #9, but I un-italicized certain dialogue lines of the Battle Helicopter pilots throughout some of the episodes. Previously I had italicized them because I thought they were communicating with their radios, but I guess whatever they say also comes out of some speaker outside of their helicopters? Bit of a similar situation whenever Gou speaks from his Getter Robo, and this wasn't something I paid attention to or even noticed until fairly recently.

With the release of this batch, I'll continue working on the show now. No estimates for Ep. 15 yet but it shouldn't be too long.

(P.S. A thank you to Windii for helping TLC and fix what was possibly an error on one line in the JP subs for Ep 2!)
